Over the past week CFD firefighters took participated in a variety of trainings held at CFD.

On Thursday Firefighters and EMS personell participated in a scenario based training as part of our regular monthly training night.

Participants were tasked with removing an injured patient from an elevated position. To simulate an accident / medical emergency at a construction site or rooftop, a dummy was placed on the departments training arch.

Fire and EMS personell laddered the arch using the departments ladder truck and scaled the ladder to assess and packaged the patient. Once packaged into a stokes basket the teams practiced several different techniques for lowering the patient to the ground.

The drill lasted for about an hour and an half and was led by CFD Officers.

During the past several Wednesdays of May, a contingent of CFD firefighters have also been participating in a Pump Operators Course taught by the Suffolk County Fire Academy at the Cutchogue Fire Deparment.

The 5 session class includes students from several different area fire departments and continues into June.

Thank you to the staff of the fire academy for your instruction in this class.

Units: CFD - Tradition - Pride - Dedication
