It is with Great Sadness that the Chiefs announce that 64 Year Member Richard W. Grathwohl has answered his last alarm has answered his last alarm.

Dick or "RW" as he was known passed away Friday at his home surrounded by family. He was 83 years old.

Funeral Arrangements are as follows:

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27th from 4-7 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.

Cutchogue Fire Department services will be held at 6 P.M.
Fire Department members are asked to wear Class A uniforms and mourning bands.

Following the visitation. the family will host "R.W.'s Final Happy Hour" at Legends beginning at 7:30 P.M.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday morning, January 28th at 10:00 A.M. at the Cutchogue Cemetery with CFD honors.

Richard Grathwohl joined the United Fire Co. No. 1 of the Cutchogue Fire Department on July 2, 1959 and is listed on the Company Rolls as our 246th member.

Throughout his time with us he would hold several positions, serving as an assistant driver and Lt. of the Hose Car, delegate to other organizations, company trustee, house committee member and company photographer from 1973-2003.

Dick was awarded a 45 Years of Service Citation in May of 2004. His active service ended in January 2005 when he requested to be placed on the Honorary List.

As his health would allow, Dick often stopped by the firehouse to keep in touch. He was usually at our meeting night feeds and other events where he enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of his brother firemen.

From the list of his accomplishments it is easy to tell that Richard Grathwohl was a dedicated member of the United Fire Company #1 and exhibited the true spirit of a Volunteer Fireman in the performance of the duties and the tasks assigned to him.

The Chiefs and Officers would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Grathwohl family and all of his friends here at CFD. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

May he rest in peace.
