On Sunday Morning at 8:00 am members of CFD joined together with members of other North Fork Fire Departments for a water rescue drill hosted by Shelter Island Fire Department
This is the latest of a series of joint monthly drills hosted and coordinated by the North Fork Fire Departments. The scenario-based search and rescue training began near Sunset Beach on Shelter Island.
After a briefing, units were dispatched to a simulated emergency that was reported to take place in the area of Shelter Island. Boat crews had to navigate to a specific area and search for a “person” in the water.
Responders were tasked with locating the patient, and then extricate him from the water onto the boats.
The teams working together were able to quickly locate the victims and coordinated their transport to shore.
The teams practiced the evolution several times with each taking turns as the primary and support boats.
The drill lasted approximately 2 hours and included Shelter Island, East Marion, Greenport, Southold, and Cutchogue Fire Departments.
The members of CFD would like to thank the Shelter Island Fire Department for the opportunity to train with you and become familiar with waters in our mutual aid areas.
Members of the CFD Water Rescue team continue to train and be prepared for the summer season. |
