On Monday morning, the members of Cutchogue Fire Department came out to honor those in the United States Armed Forces who gave up their lives for our country.
The officers & members of the CFD, the CFD Marching Band, Juniors and Ladies Auxiliary, marched through the streets of Greenport as participants in the Annual Southold Town Memorial Day Parade which was held this year in Greenport and hosted by the Burton-Potter American Legion Post #185. At 10 a.m. before the parade stepped off, a ceremony was held at Monument located on the corner of Main St. and First St. to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women of the US Military who gave their lives, so we may continue to enjoy the freedoms of our country.
The parade began following the ceremony and included Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, various school and community groups, and many of our local fire departments.
There were many spectators along the route, many waving small flags and applauding as the participants marched by. The parade continued through the heart of the Greenport Village and concluded at the American Legion on Third St.
Over 50 members of CFD proudly participated in the morning's events.
CFD was honored to be joined for the parade by Petty Officer 2nd Class Rachel Park, who is home on leave while currently serving in the US Navy.
Rachel a former CFD Junior, joined several family members in the parade and carried our nation's colors for the CFD Ladies Auxiliary marching alongside her mother.
After the parade, the members of the CFD returned to the firehouse to enjoy an old-fashioned barbecue with friends and families.
The Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all Veterans of our nation's Armed Forces.
Your devotion to your Country and its Citizens is forever appreciated. |
