At 11:52 p.m. on Friday August 7th, just before midnight, the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire (signal 13) at 14005 County Route 48, located west of Alvah's Lane near the Fire District line.
With smoke and flames visible as they came down the long farm road, first arriving units discovered a fire in a large roll-off dumpster that was impinging on a camper and two large barns that were in close proximity.
Firefighters arriving on the first-due engine 8-5-4 deployed two handlines upon arrival and quickly contained the fire to the dumpster and protected the nearby exposures.
Through the efforts of firefighters, damages were confined to the dumpster and the camper.
No injuries were reported
36 Firefighters were on scene for approximately 1 ½ hours, until the scene was secured and turned over to Southold Town Police for investigation.
