The Training Continues.... Monthly Training Night - Air Bags

October 19, 2025

On Thursday October 16th members of the Cutchogue Fire Department gathered at HQ for the regular monthly training night. Each month on the third Thursday of the month CFD has a dedicated in-house training night that covers a variety of topics

The topic of this month's training was Air Bags.

The participants reviewed the different situations that "High Pressure Air bags" could be used for lifting along with the importance of each component of the system and other rescue tools carried on our Heavy Rescue Truck 8-5-5.

The drill gave the members the opportunity to become familiar with the Air bag system, and emphasize the importance of stabilization using a large amount of cribbing that is carried on the truck.

After a review, members were given the opportunity to use the Air Bags during a problem solving scenario in which they were tasked with lifting a table and standing it on its legs.

Working as a team, the drill gave everyone the chance to practice using the tools we would use in real life situations as well as have a little friendly competition using a little patience and finesse.

Each month throughout the year we host a variety of training sessions that help us refine our skills. These drills and trainings are in addition to a schedule of Live-fire & hands on training that is held at the Suffolk County Fire Academy.

Thank you to everyone who came out and to the team from firehouse training +, for a good night of training.
