| Early this morning members of CFD responded to a motor vehicle accident.
The accident occurred at 0224 hrs. on County Route 48 near the intersection of Horseshoe Drive. The first responding units were on the scene quickly and found a single vehicle accident in which the vehicle had left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and large utility pole.
Upon arrival of the Police and Fire Units the single occupant of the vehicle had and was found lying outside of the vehicle and had significant injuries.
Members of the CFD Rescue Squad worked along side Paramedics from Stony Brook University First Responders, and Southold Town police officers to treat and package the patient for transport to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
Firefighters arriving on Heavy Rescue truck 8-5-5 arrived and controlled any hazards with the vehicle and stood by with lighting until the vehicle could be towed.
Fire Police units controlled traffic during the incident.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by Southold Town Police Department.
CFD Volunteers remained busy throughout the holiday weekend, responding to 11 calls over the course of the past several days. |
