| On Wednesday, February 11, the CFD Junior Firefighters gathered at the firehouse for their monthly meeting and training session.
Each month, the juniors participate in a different training activity designed to familiarize them with fire and EMS services.
Due to the recent extreme cold weather affecting the area, this month's training focused on cold water and ice rescues.
During the session, members discussed the various dangers and safe practices related to ice on local waterways.
The juniors were introduced to the procedures and equipment used for victim rescues during winter months.
As part of the training, the juniors worked to rescue a simulated victim that had fallen through the ice, using ropes and other equipment available in the truck bay.
Working in teams, the drill allowed the juniors to gain hands-on experience with the tools firefighters use in real-life rescue situations.
The CFD Juniors extend their thanks to all the firefighters who volunteer their time to assist with the trainings.
The CFD Junior Firefighter program is open to residents of the Cutchogue Fire District between the ages of 11 and 17. The juniors typically meet once a month on the second Wednesday.
Anyone interested in joining the program is encouraged to contact the firehouse for more information or e-mail cutchoguechiefs@yahoo.com |
