| On Saturday November 10th Cutchogue Firefighters assisted the FDNY Firefighter John Mcnamara foundation with a special mission, bringing much needed relief supplies to several areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.
CFD joined a group of Volunteers from Blue Point FD, and Patchogue Volunteer Ambulance to transport a large amount of donated supplies to the Lindenhurst, Long Beach and Breezy Point areas of Long Island. These specific areas were among the hardest hit areas during Huricane Sandy. The storm has devastated these towns leaving thousands without power, water and even homes.
The supplies were donated to the chartiy as part of a relief drive held in the Patchogue and Blue Point communities and were distributed to community shelters in those damaged regions.
Taken back by the experience and the feeling that more could be done for these people in need, the group from CFD organized thier own relief drive here at home over the course of the following week.
Reaching out to local civic groups and the community CFD began to accepted donations of clothing, food and supplies to be ditributed throughout the Long Beach and Breezy Point areas. Through the generosity of the several local businesses, the Mattituck Boy Scouts, and the community at large the donations came pouring in.
On Sunday November 18th CFD volunteers again headed into these devastated areas to distribute the much needed supplies to the needy people. These donations from our local community would total enough to fill the department bus, special operations unit and utility trailer.
After spending most of the day in the Breezy Point area, crews would return to home to the North Fork in the early evening.
The officers and members of the Cuthogue Fire Department would like to thank the community for their generosity and support in this endeavor.
