March 21, 2014

It is with deep regret that Chiefs of the North Amityville Fire Department.
announce the passing of Ex-Chief Lon J. Gooch.

Lonnie was a long time, loyal friend, brother and supporter of CFD.

His ties date back to the 1980's when he befriended the then Chief of CFD Evie Glover, forging a friendship between themselves and our two Departments.

Each year since Lonnie would help out at our annual Chicken Barbecue, cooking chicken in the pits along side his many friends he made throughout the years.

The younger members will remember him as a Suffolk County Fire Academy Instructor where he taught many classes and acted as a mentor to the many firefighters that now serve our community. He would always make sure you got the "special treatment" once he saw that you wore Cutchogue on your back and was eager to pass his along his knowledge to the new generation of firefighters.

Lonnie passed away Tuesday at his home after a courageous battle with ALS / Lou Gehrig's Disease at the age of 59.

The Chiefs Officers and members of the Cutchogue Fire Dept. wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Gooch Family, the North Amityville Fire Dept, Fire Academy Staff, and all his friends here in Cutchogue.

He will be truly missed by many, May he rest in peace.

Thank you for the many years of friendship.
