| On Sunday March 29th the Cutchogue F.D. Junior Firefighters made a special field trip to New York City to see several sites in the City.
The first stop on the trip was the FDNY Firehouse of Rescue Company 3 in the Bronx. Rescue 3 is one of the City's (5) elite Rescue Companies, who's primary response includes the Bronx and Harlem. These companies carry a variety of special equipment and are trained to respond to major fires as well as technical and unusual emergencies throughout New York City.
The CFD Juniors were the guests of FDNY Firefighter Rob Andersen who is the father of two CFD Juniors Brenden and Connor Andersen and currently is assigned to Rescue 3.
Once at the firehouse, the Juniors were given a tour of the century old firehouse, by Mr. Andersen and were shown the Company's two vehicles, the Rescue, and Collapse Rescue Truck. The Juniors were shown the many different tools and their purposes that are carried on these vehicles. Mr. Andersen explained the role of the rescue company and the operations of FDNY throughout the hour and a half tour.
After leaving the firehouse the Juniors also had the opportunity to see the New Yankee Stadium, as we drove through the Bronx on our way to Manhattan.
The final stop of the day was the Intrepid Air and Space Museum located on the west side of Manhattan. The museum based on a 900 foot World War II aircraft carrier gave the group a unique opportunity to see and learn about our military services and see real fighter planes and helicopters up close. The Intrepid recently reopened this winter after undergoing a refurbishment project that lasted for two years.
The Cutchogue Fire Department would like to thank FDNY Firefighter Rob Andersen and his fellow firefighters at FDNY Rescue Company No. 3 for opening your home to our Juniors and giving them a unique experience we hope they will remember.
