Mutual Aid - Blaze Destroys Mattituck Home

On Saturday Evening around 9:3 p.m. Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Mattituck Fire Department at the scene of a working house fire on Rachel's Rd. in Mattituck.

Police and Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire consuming a two-story home that was located in a residential development

First arriving fire and police units were confronted with well advanced fire that was fully engulfing the home. Radiant heat and embers from the blaze were were beginning to threaten several vehicles in the driveway.

The Cutchogue FD was requested to respond to the scene with an engine and ladder truck to assist with battling the blaze.

Mattituck Firefighters arrived on scene and began attempting to knock down the fire using available tank water until a water supply could be supplies from nearby hydrants. CFD Engine 8-5-4, arrived and deployed its deck gun to assist in darkening down the fire.

Once connected to hydrants, firefighters went into a defensive operation, using master streams from Mattituck's Tower Ladder 8-6-8 and CFD Ladder 8-5-3 to fight the fire from above.

CFD firefighters manned an additional handline until the fire was knocked down and assisted MFD firefighters with overhaul and cleanup before being released from the scene nearly 2 1/2 hours later.

Fire police assisted with directing traffic in the area.

The Southold Fire Department responded to the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported.

As is routine, the exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.

The Jamesport FD and Southold additionally provided a stand-by crews that were stationed at the Mattituck FD in the event of any other alarms during the incident, while the Greenport Fire Department stood by at the Cutchogue Fire Department.
