On Saturday morning April 25th, CFD Firefighters tested the 60 fire wells throughout the Cutchogue Fire District.
Twice a year, each fire well is tested by our Volunteers to ensure that each well is capable of providing a water supply to protect the homes in the community in the event of a fire.
These wells are spaced throughout the Fire District to provide a water supply to those areas that are not protected by fire hyrdrants or public water supply.
Currently, only approximately half of the Fire District is protected by a public water supply, mainly those portions located along or south of State Route #25, thus making the maintenance and upkeep of these wells in unhydranted areas important.
Thank you to the many firefighters who dedicated the morning to help make this possible.
