On Monday morning at about 11:54 a.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to a machinery fire at on the grounds of a local landscaping company located on Commerce Drive in Cutchogue.

While responding updated reports of a fully involved machine was given.

Upon arrival at the scene units were confronted with a large tub grinder that was partially involved with fire. The fire started while the machine was being used to grind brush into mulch.

Workers on scene were able to knock down the bulk of the fire using extinquishers prior to the arrival of the FD units.

One worker was suffering from respiratory distress and was immediately treated by EMS personnel.

The first arriving units were able to control and extinquish the remaining fire using a handline from 8-5-4.

Units operated on scene for one half hour before being released from the scene.

The worker was treated and transported CFD ambulance to the Peconic Bay Medical Center for evaluation.

The fire is believed to have started as a result of a broken hydraulic line.
